October 28, 2020 UPDATE in regards to COVID-19

Because we care about our community and want to help stop the spread of the virus, protecting our community, staff, guests and volunteers... we are taking steps as a precaution due to the COVID-19 Risk dial for the area being at "High". Stronger social distancing restrictions will be in place, meaning one person or family unit at a time will be allowed in the facility and we will be going by appointments during our normally regular business hours. An application for adoption is available on our website at www.mccookhumanesociety.com under the tab dog or cat, please indicate who you are interested in adopting. Our front door will be locked during our otherwise normal open hours, you may knock and if we do not have an otherwise scheduled appointment, or someone else in the facility, you will be able to come in and view our pets available for adoption.
Masks are mandatory. We ask that you do not come into the facility if you have been in contact with anyone who has tested positive with COVID-19, or if you have traveled to a known high risk area within the last 14 days, if you are at high risk, or if you are showing any symptoms of the virus. We appreciate your continuing support and understanding during these unusual times and wish everyone a happy, enjoyable and safe experience while visiting our facility.

It's easy to fall in love with an adorable puppy or kitten; however, don't get a pet on a whim! Raising a pet is a lifetime commitment. Pets often arrive at animal shelters - not because of the pet - but because of changes at the pet's former home.

The McCook Humane Society invites prospective adopters to visit the dogs and cats at our shelter and meet the pets "in person."

Our goal is to find appropriate, responsible and loving homes for the many pets in our care. We reserve the right to refuse an adoption if it would not be in the best interest of the animal and/or person involved.

The cost of adoption is $50 for dogs and puppies; $25 for cats and kittens.

Ask about our Spay and Neuter Program... We feel very strongly that spaying and neutering is the only way we will be able to put a stop to the pet overpopulation. There will be a Spay or Neuter fee if the animal is not already currently altered.

Out of Area Adoptions Available. . .

If you find a pet on our website you would like to meet, but you are not in the McCook area, please contact us during the shelter's hours at (308) 345-2372.

Did you know. . .

When you adopt a pet from us most area veterinarians offer a free new pet exam and a discount on vaccinations?

Please!! Do your part to help control pet overpopulation...have your pet spayed or neutered.
